Marrakech is the most exotic city in Morocco, a fascinating urban theatre situated at the foot of the High Atlas Mts and on a main trade route from sub Saharan Africa where caravanserai stopped to trade in the marketplace or souk.
Marrakech is as well placed now as it was then with the deserts and kasbahs of the south beyond the mountains and within easy access of the coast at the enchanting port of Essaouira. A good train service connects it to the Imperial cities of Fez and Meknes as well as Tangiers, Rabat and Casablanca. There is also a good road from the north including much motorway now and an extensive Grand [big] taxis and coach service
There are monuments and museums to see in Marrakech but the most memorable is perhaps the city itself. A stroll through the labyrinthine alleys of the medina and the chaotic souks followed by people-watching from a chic pavement café on a tree - lined boulevard illustrates perfectly the contrasting traditional and modern aspects of the city.
Main sights include:
Jmna El F’na square -The Saadian tombs -The Bahia Palace -The Badi Palace -The Dar si Said Museum -The Tiskiwin Museum -The Museum of Marrakech -The Medrasa of Ben Youseff -The Katoubia Mosque -The city walls -The Majorelle gardens
